SOUTH DALLAS FAIR PARK FAITH COALITION AND UT SOUTHWESTERN HOST “BROTHER TO BROTHER” BLACK MEN’S HEALTH EVENT

By: Toska Medlock Lee

The South Dallas Fair Park Faith Coalition, in partnership with UT Southwestern, will kick off Black History Month with “Brother to Brother: Black Men’s Health – A Day of Love and Life” on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Light of the World Church, 7408 S. Hampton Rd., Dallas, TX. This groundbreaking event will tackle one of the most pressing health issues facing Black men today: prostate cancer. Black men are disproportionately at risk for developing and dying from this disease, therefore making awareness, education, and action critical.
The event also warmly welcomes the women who love Black men—mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, and friends—who play a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of Black men. Attendees will learn how to encourage the men in their lives to prioritize their health, attend regular screenings, and seek care when needed. Together, Black women will amplify the message that Black men are invaluable as fathers, brothers, uncles, providers, and leaders in their families and communities.

The day’s highlights include:

  • Exclusive Film Screening: The Silent Killer: Cancer in the Black Community
  • ManCave Experience: A safe and exclusive space for Black men to engage in candid conversations with prostate cancer survivors, medical experts, and peers.
  • GirlCave Experience: The Women who love men will have a separate engaging experience designed to offer ways to support and encourage their loved ones to engage in regular life-saving screenings. Additionally, addressing concerns about navigating an often-inequitable healthcare system.
  • Health Screenings: Free Prostate cancer screenings for men to encourage early detection and prevention.

“Brother to Brother” is designed to empower, educate, and equip Black men and their loved ones with life-saving information and resources said Rev. Todd Atkins, President of the South Dallas/Fair Park Faith Coalition. “We recognize that health equity begins with awareness and access,” said Rev. Atkins “Black Health is Black History, and this event will help Black men take control of their health and break the silence around prostate cancer.”
This event is free and open to the public. Visit eventbrite.com to secure your spot.
