Known for its signature fried chicken, crispy catfish, homemade sides, and welcoming atmosphere, Grandma’s Country Kitchen has quickly become a destination for those seeking more than a meal—a place where community, tradition, and the spirit of family are at the center of the experience.
For Co-Owners Harold Cox and Carl Cheatham, the honor represents the culmination of hard work, perseverance, and a shared vision to bring a true down-home Southern cooking experience to the Oak Cliff community.

For Cheatham, the success of Grandma’s Country Kitchen is deeply personal. A product of Dallas, Cheatham has strong ties to the Oak Cliff community, with he and many of his siblings being graduates of South Oak Cliff High School.
Through Grandma’s Country Kitchen, he is continuing a legacy of connection by creating a place where generations can gather, share memories, and experience the warmth of Southern hospitality.

Helping bring that vision to life behind the scenes is Administrative Assistant Carla Swain, known by the team as the “oil and glue” behind Grandma’s Country Kitchen. Swain has played an instrumental role in supporting the restaurant’s mission and ensuring the community receives the experience the owners envisioned.
“It is with great honor to accept this award,” said Swain. “For the past year and a half, we have diligently worked day and night to bring a staple down-home Southern cooking restaurant to the Oak Cliff area. We put much thought, prayer, and praise into giving our clients and community the best experience that reminds us all of Grandma’s legacy.”
