The Labor Day holiday marks the unofficial end of summer. Although summer has not officially ended yet, the sun is starting to set earlier and the temperatures are lower. Thank God for the recent change in temperatures and not being quite as hot. Also, school is back in session and college classes have started as well. In addition to that, football season is in full effect, which is another indication that September is here! Go Cowboys! I hope this season won’t be as disappointing as previous seasons, but I would be silly to think it will be vastly different. However, I will hold on to my optimism anyway. Maybe with Ceedee Lamb signing that huge contract, perhaps Dak will be able to make some magic happen! We shall see.
On a much more somber note, we recently had the tragic shooting of Officer Darron Burks. He was a police officer for The Dallas Police Department. Additionally, two other officers were shot, Jamie Farmer, who was shot in the leg and was released and Karissa David, who was shot in the face and is in critical, but stable condition at the time of this writing. The shooter, 30-year-old Corey Cobb-Bey, was killed by Dallas police after a chase that ended in Lewisville. The shooter was a Moorish American National, which is a population that considers themselves sovereign and immune from U.S. laws. Officer Burks, a former high school math teacher for Texas Can Academy and member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, was admired by many within the community. An outpouring of love can be seen by the memorials organized across the city. It is evident that he lived a life to serve others, and his murder is felt deeply by those who knew him and even by those who did not. Our prayers are with his family and all those who loved Officer Darron Burks. His service was not in vain and he will be deeply missed. While there are officers that dishonor the badge out there, the vast majority protect and serve our community everyday putting their lives on the line so that we might be safe. Let’s send up a prayer for the safety and protection of our officers because when they leave their homes for duty that day, it could very well be their last.

Until next time, may God bless and keep you
is my prayer.
