It’s the Most Wonderful Time!

The Publisher's Desk - James Valentino Thomas

Fall is officially here! I like the temperatures, but I don’t like that it gets dark There is some truth to the saying “every year seems to go by faster than the year before.” It certainly seems that way to me for 2024. For so much of the year we were inundated with political ads and they were everywhere. Every TV commercial was either about Ted Cruz and Colin Allred or Trump and Kamila. Thankfully, all that is over now. We are left with Ted Cruz again and Trump again and it took me a few days, as it did most Democrats, to pull ourselves together after such a devastating loss, but I finally did. The sun is still shining and God still has ultimate control, as my faith in Him steadfastly believes. So, we soldier on to see how this will go. At least the stock market is continuing to do exceedingly well, so if you are an investor in the market, you are quite happy right now!

Moving right along, I hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving! I am glad to say that our family definitely did. Now the flipside to all that eating and celebrating is eating a little too much! I went to the gym the next day, so I was able to work a little of that turkey and dressing off. Our health is important! We only have one body, and we need to take care of it as best as we can. That’s why I’m grateful to our dietician writer and contributor, Carol Taylor, who is a registered dietician and journalist. Carol replaced our longtime former dietician writer, Neva Cochran. Staying in the lane of health, Bishop T.D. Jakes recently had a health scare at church that was an alarming incident. Many of us watched it live and was worried for Bishop’s health. Thankfully he made a video announcement that he was treated and is resting and recovering. We are continuing to keep Bishop T.D. Jakes in our prayers for his continued healing.

I was pleasantly surprised when CBS 11 Reporter, Steve Pickett, contacted me about an interview. I’m normally the one that interviews other people, so this was different! I must say that Steve and his team did a fantastic job! The segment highlighted the magazine and all the good things that are happening in Southern Dallas. Too often, we only hear the negative stories about Southern Dallas and Steve wanted to highlight our positive stories and that’s exactly what I gave him. If you haven’t seen it, you can go to YouTube and type in Southern Dallas MagazineCBS 11. I think you will enjoy it! As 2024 draws to a close, I want to thank my staff, writers, advertisers and most of all YOU! With you there would be no Southern Dallas Magazine. I’m exceedingly grateful for your support. And I must thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for making it all possible. I wish you all a verry Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Remember this, if you go with God, He will go with you! Make sure to be a blessing to someone in need!

Until next time, may God bless and keep you is my prayer.
