In the heart of Southern Dallas, global history was made on July 6th .
With a sanctuary full of elders, innovators, and generations raised under his teachings, Bishop T.D. Jakes passed the pastoral mantle of The Potter’s House to his daughter and son-in-law, Pastors Sarah Jakes Roberts and Touré Roberts. It was a sacred moment, more than a ceremony, it was a blessing across bloodlines and time, a prophetic baton pass that speaks to both legacy and future.
The significance wasn’t lost on the thousands in attendance, or the millions who tuned in around the world. The Potter’s House, born in 1996 right here in Dallas, has long been more than a church. Under Bishop T.D. Jakes’ leadership, it became a national epicenter for spiritual growth, community development, and social transformation. What started in a storefront exploded into a movement, one that uplifted a city and echoed across the globe.
Now, as Pastors Sarah and Touré step into the role of co-senior pastors, they carry forward not just a ministry, but a mandate.
Sarah Jakes Roberts has already made her mark as a bestselling author, businesswoman, and founder of the Woman Evolve movement. a powerful, global sisterhood that empowers women to heal, lead, and rise. Her voice has connected with millions who didn’t always see themselves reflected in traditional church spaces. Touré Roberts, her husband and ministry partner, brings years of pastoral leadership, visionary insight, and spiritual depth. Together, they’ve already built thriving communities in Los Angeles and Denver, and they are poised to bring that same relevance, reverence, and reach to this new assignment.
But make no mistake, this isn’t about passing a torch and walking away.
Bishop T.D. Jakes’ next chapter is one of continued, expanded impact. While he has transitioned out of the daily responsibilities of senior pastoral leadership, his commitment to service remains as focused as ever. As Chairman of the T.D. Jakes Group, he is now devoting more time and strategic vision to the work he’s quietly been building for years, work that centers around economic justice, workforce development, housing equity, and entrepreneurship.
In June, his Good Soil Forum returned to Dallas, gathering entrepreneurs, funders, and leaders of color to address the barriers that often keep small businesses from scaling. In August, his team will launch a global exchange summit on Martha’s Vineyard, creating space for cross-continental conversations around innovation, ethics, faith, and investment across the African diaspora.
Meanwhile, he’s preparing to reach millions through a new slate of programming with iHeartPodcasts. His first show, My Next Chapter, will explore what it takes to rebuild our lives and communities amid the cultural uncertainty so many are feeling. This media expansion brings Jakes’ timeless wisdom into new spaces, where faith meets daily life, and spiritual insight meets real-world complexity.
Southern Dallas has long been home to The Potter’s House, and this moment matters for the people who’ve watched its growth firsthand. This transition is not a departure, it’s a deepening. Jakes’ influence will continue to shape our city, our systems, and our stories, not only through sermons, but through the tangible work of community-building, policy-shaping, and opportunity creation.
And for Sarah and Touré? They step into leadership not just as heirs, but as innovators. As a new generation of pastors who understand both the foundation and the future. As leaders equipped to meet a cultural moment where faith must be as accessible as it is transformative.
During the installation service, Bishop Jakes looked out over the crowd and reminded them: “This is not an inheritance. This is a calling.” It’s a distinction that matters. Because what we witnessed on July 6 wasn’t just succession, it was multiplication. The expansion of a vision. The continuation of a call.
This next season at The Potter’s House belongs to all of us. It’s a celebration of Southern Dallas excellence, Black spiritual leadership, and what happens when legacy isn’t locked in the past, but passed forward with power.
