Remembering The Queen of Rock n Roll The Great Tina Turner

The world has lost an icon in Tina Turner. For decades, Tina strutted her stuff on stage to millions of adoring fans all over the world. Her stunning signature legs are legendary! Anne Mae Bullock, later to be known as Tina Turner, was born on November 26th, 1939, in Brownsville, Tennessee to parents Floyd Richard Bollock and Zelma Priscilla. She later recalled picking cotton and singing in the church choir. Tina’s parents broke up and her father remarried. In her autobiography, Tina would say that she felt her parents did not love her and she  in  went to live with her grandmother.

In 1957, she met Ike Turner at a club in East St. Louis and the rest, as they say is history. The two had a tumultuous relationship, although they made hits while together as Ike and Tina Turner with songs, “A Fool In Love”, “Proud Mary” and many more. After a fight in Dallas at the Statler Hotel, Tina left Ike and they divorced in 1978. She had an incredible solo and acting career, starring in the movie, “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome”. She won a Grammy in 1984 for Record of the Year for her smash hit, “What’s Love Got to Do With It”, which would later become a movie starring Angela Bassett as Tina Turner and Laurence Fishbourne as Ike. Tina continued to churn out hits for many years to come and tour all over the world.

Tina revealed in 2018, that she had high blood pressure since 1978 and it had remained mostly untreated which led to damage of her kidneys and eventually kidney failure. In 2013, three weeks after her wedding to Erwin Bach, she had a stroke and had to learn to walk again. In 2016, she was diagnosed with intestinal cancer. Thankfully in 2017, she received a kidney from her husband, and it was a success.

Tina passed on May 24th, 2023, at the age of eighty-three. Tina had two children, Raymond Craig and Ronald Turner. Her eldest son died of suicide in 2018. Tina will forever be remembered as, “The Queen Of Rock and Roll’ and that is how it should be, as she was certainly that and so much more.
