Fall is officially here! I like the temperatures, but I don’t like that it gets dark so early.  I guess you can’t have everything you want. Speaking of wanting, a significant number of people wanted Vice President Harris to win. I sure did and that didn’t happen. Voters wanted Senator Colin Allred to win and that didn’t happen either. The Democrats did have some victories on election night, like the re-election of Representative Jasmin Crockett, but we had more losses than victories. Democrats also lost control of the Senate. To be clear, it was a beating.

Many Americans were feeling like the country was on the wrong path, so they voted for who they think can help them. As disheartening as it was, it was crystal clear that the Democratic Party must do a much better job of not only picking stronger candidates, but also engaging voters far sooner than they did. I don’t think young Democratic voters were engaged. I  heard many just were not enthused about Vice President Harris. The same feeling  they had about Barack Obama, simply wasn’t there. Also, the economy took center stage with many reeling from inflation, along with immigration. It doesn’t seem like the abortion issue was as high on the list of importance with voters as the Democrats may have thought. What Democrats must know is that the economy in America always ranks at the top of the list when it comes to how many Americans vote. Also, could it be that America really isn’t ready for a female President or was Vice President Harris just not the right one? Maybe a bit of both, more than likely.

In any case, the Democrats will have to lick their wounds and go back to the drawing board. This defeat was a tough one, but if you are smart, you will learn from your loss and come back stronger next time. That’s all you can really do. The next time around, the Democrats will have the opportunity to hold a convention and have candidates to compete for the nomination, which didn’t happen this time because of the timing when Biden dropped out. I believe that may have been the problem as Democratic strategist James Carville pointed out.

In other news, Thanksgiving is coming up soon! At least I have that to look forward to. Also, we lost a legend in music, the great Quincy Jones. He was 91. From Michael Jackson to Diana Ross, Quincy Jones played a major part in music and entertainment for decades. He will be greatly missed.

Until next time, may God bless and keep you is my prayer.
