Leading with Purpose: How Roland G. Parrish Uplifts Communities Through Business and Service

By Toska Medlock Lee

Dallas business leader and philanthropist Roland G. Parrish has spent decades turning entrepreneurial success into meaningful impact, both locally and abroad. Recently recognized with the prestigious 95th Linz Award by The Dallas Morning News, Parrish’s story exemplifies how purpose-driven leadership can transform communities. As the owner of 25 McDonald’s franchises in North Texas, he has become not only a trailblazer in business but also a powerful advocate for social change.

Parrish’s journey to success is rooted in the values instilled by his parents, whose legacy he honors through his tireless philanthropic efforts.

“My parents taught me that true success isn’t about what you accumulate; it’s about how you use what you’ve gained to uplift others,” says Parrish. This philosophy is the driving force behind his commitment to giving back to underserved communities across the United States and beyond.

A Lifelong Commitment to Giving Back
Over the years, Parrish has donated millions of dollars to initiatives aimed at supporting Black and Brown communities—ranging from unique educational programs, including debate programs for middle and high school students, internships for college students interested in sports management, scholarship opportunities for emerging musicians, and more. A few of his most ambitious projects includes the Roland Parrish Career Development Center at Fisk University in Nashville, TN, Roland G. Parrish Library of Management and Economics, a hospital in Uganda, named in honor of his parents, which provides critical medical services to rural populations with limited access to healthcare.

“Whether it’s in Dallas or across the world, my goal is to make an impact where it’s needed most,” Parrish explains. “We all have a responsibility to leave the world better than we found it.”

For Parrish, true philanthropy involves not just writing checks but being actively engaged in the communities he serves. This hands-on approach has earned him respect and recognition from civic leaders and community members alike.

From Franchises to Philanthropy:
A Legacy of Leadership
tarting with a single McDonald’s franchise, Parrish built a business empire that now spans 25 locations across North Texas. Yet, he never lost sight of his mission to use his resources to uplift others. “The success of my business has allowed me to invest in what really matters—people, education, and health,” says Parrish. “I’ve always believed that if you have the power to make a difference, it’s your duty to do so.”
His focus on education has led to the creation of scholarship funds and mentorship programs designed to empower young people of color to pursue their dreams. By partnering with schools and community organizations, Parrish aims to close the opportunity gap for underserved youth.

An Award-Winning Advocate for Change
The Linz Award, which Parrish recently received, is one of the highest honors in Dallas, celebrating those who have made significant contributions to the community. As only the third African American to receive this accolade, Parrish joins the ranks of trailblazers who have left indelible marks on the city’s social fabric.

“This award isn’t just about me—it’s about the countless people who’ve believed in my vision and worked alongside me to make it a reality,” Parrish humbly notes. “It’s a testament to the power of community and the change we can create when we come together.”

Impact Beyond Borders
Parrish’s philanthropic efforts are not confined to Dallas or even the United States. In Uganda, the hospital named after his parents has become a beacon of hope for thousands. The facility offers not only critical healthcare services but also a training ground for local medical professionals. His global footprint serves as an inspiration for other business leaders to think beyond profit and prioritize impact.
“We live in an interconnected world, and it’s our duty to extend a helping hand wherever we can,” Parrish reflects. “I’m honored to carry forward my parents’ legacy of service and compassion.”

A Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Parrish is focused on expanding his philanthropic reach while continuing to grow his business ventures. His story is a powerful reminder that success is not solely defined by financial gain, but by the lives you touch and the positive change you create.
“I’ve been blessed with many opportunities, but what truly fulfills me is seeing the ripple effect of giving back,” Parrish says. “It’s about planting seeds that will grow for generations to come.”

As he continues to build on his impressive legacy, Roland Parrish remains a shining example of what it means to lead with purpose. His journey from a successful franchise owner to a globally recognized philanthropist showcases the limitless possibilities of combining business acumen with a heart for service.
