This past weekend, the Southern Dallas community came together to honor the 50th anniversary of the Shops at RedBird (formerly Red Bird Mall) with a historic,
three-event celebration presented by Comerica Bank and Russell Glen. More than 1200 people from across the greater DFW metroplex joined the festivities, marking a milestone that
highlighted both the history and bright future of RedBird.
The celebratory weekend began Saturday morning, August 23, with the REDBIRD RUN + FUN 5K WALK AND FAMILY FUN DAY. Powered by UT Southwestern, the event brought families and
fitness enthusiasts together for a community walk/run, along with a vibrant kid’s fun zone featuring bounce houses, face painting, and interactive activities.
Later that evening, the community gathered once again for THE REUNION COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY. Held on the Lawn at RedBird, the block party buzzed with energy as attendees enjoyed
Urban Trivia Live, a dynamic performance by Dallas’ own RC & The Gritz, food trucks, lawn games, and dancing under the stars.
The celebration concluded Sunday, August 24, with the sold-out REFRESH SUNDAY GOSPEL BRUNCH at The Nest inside The Shops at RedBird, powered by Charles Schwab Bank. Guests
were uplifted by soul-stirring performances from Grammy Award-winning Myron Butler, the DFW Mass Legacy Choir, and Gaye Arbuckle, with cuisine prepared by Breakfast Brothers and
renowned Chef Fitzgerald Dodd. Hosted by Lady Jade, the brunch also featured the premiere screening of the RedBird Rising documentary, which received an emotional response from the
audience.
“The 50th anniversary of RedBird was both a celebration and a reflection of the community’s resilience and pride,” said Terrence Maiden, CEO of Russell Glen Company and Chair of the
RedBird 50-Year Celebration. “It was moving to honor our shared history while also celebrating the transformation of RedBird into a vibrant hub for healthcare, education, retail, and culture.”
Comerica Bank echoed this sentiment. “As one of the first institutions to support and invest in the revitalization of the southern sector, we were proud to sponsor RedBird’s significant
milestone and amplify the economic progress and momentum it represents,” said Brandon Q. Jones, Comerica Senior Vice President, Director of External Affairs.
The Shops at RedBird continues to serve as a model for impact-driven redevelopment, symbolizing community pride and investment in Southern Dallas for the next generation.
